Robert and Piechowski reanalyzed OE questionnaire responses from Lysy’s (1979) study to operationalize the distinction between conserving and transforming forms of emotional overexcitability. They developed subcategories of emotional and intellectual OE and found that discriminant analysis using these subcategories correctly classified 100% of subjects. The study represents the first attempt to empirically differentiate conserving and transforming types based on OE subcategories rather than dynamisms.
